Missouri was debating being a free state or a slave state, it was admitted as a slave state but at the same time, Maine was admitted as a free state. This event took place in congress. This event took place because the nation was in a big debate about slavery. This event impacted the union because there were more slave states in the union.

    The Wilmot proviso included David Wilmot. The Wilmot Proviso was an unsuccessful 1846 proposal in the United States Congress to ban slavery in territory acquired from Mexico in the Mexican–American War. The Wilmot Proviso took place in all states admitted to the union. This event took place because Many Americans including David Wilmot did not believe in slavery. This changed how Americans thought of new states in the union.

This event didn't work too well for the South, so when Lincon was elected the southern states seceded from the union.

It also produced a violent uprising known as “Bleeding Kansas,” This event took place in Kansas and Nebraska. Bleeding Kansas took place because people were unhappy about this act. This event changed history due to getting rid of the Missouri compromise.

John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry was an effort by abolitionist John Brown, from October 16 to 18, 1859, to initiate a slave revolt in Southern states by taking over the United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia. It has been called the dress rehearsal for, or Tragic Prelude to the Civil War. This took place in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This took place because John brown believed that slavery should not exist.
