    Fugitive Slave Law
    The fugitive slave was for the capture and return of runaaway slaves in the US. This law imposed punishments on people who helped the slaves get away. Another law was enacted in 1850 with harsher punishments and more provisons for runaways. Many Northern states tried to end these laws and hated them very much.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin Publication
    The Publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin had a major influence on the way the public viewed slavery. This book sold 300.000 copies within 3 months.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    Senator Stephen Douglas created this act that divided the land West of Missouri into two parts, Kansas and Nebraska. He used popular sovreignty to decided if slavery would be legal in those states. Many people rushed to Kansas to take their votes, South mostly for Slavery and North mostly not for Slavery. This conflict turned very violent.

    When the Kansas-Nebraska Act occured the peace between Slavery and Non- Slavery was broken and people wpuld now decide if their sate would be free or slave. Many political leaders couldn't stand to watch this so they created a new party, the Republican party. These people under the Republican union to restore the Union to liberty.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    The Compormise of 1850 resolved the issues of the divisions over slavery in new territory gained in the Mexican-American War. One of its compromises was a free state, which created Utah and New Mexico where slavery was tobe determined by ppopular sovereignty. This setteled a border dispute with Texas and New Mexico. The Slave Trade was ended in Washinton, D.C. making it easier for South to recover slaves.
