-California would enter the union as a free state.
-The rest of the Mexican cession would be divide into 2 territories Utah and new Mexico. Which slavery will be decide by popular sovereignty.

Published in 1852. Within a decade it sold 2 million copies and heavily angered Southerners. Made many people become anti-slavery. -

Dred Scott was an African American slave who sued for his fredom. His case went to Supreme Court and he lost. The ruling was that African Americans were property and could not sue people in court or be in court at all. This being said, it made it illegal for Congress to abolish slavery. -

Abraham Lincoln was the winner of the 1860 election. He had received 180 electoral votes and 1,865,593 votes. This had angered the south because they relized that they were loosing their political power. This caused the south to form the confederacy. -
