    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a Missouri slave who searched for freedom. The Dred Scott case was one of the major causes of the Civil War. Dred Scott was moved from Missouri to Minnesota then back to Missouri. He sued his owner saying that he was a free man when they moved to the free state. The court ruled agaisnt Dred saying that slaves are not citizens and that slaves are property to their owners.

  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    Uncle Tom's Cabin
    Harriet Beecher Stowe published Uncle Tom's Cabin in the year of 1851. The South was unhappy with this book and tried to get the government to ban the book but, the book opened the eyes of the North. The North decisident to only to fight for the union but to cfight to free the black slaves as well.

    The Kansas Nebraska Act allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide whether they will allow slavery in their boarders or not. Violence erupted as the anti slavery John Brown tried to free some black slaves which lead to the nickname Bleeding Kansas.

    Abraham Lincoln ran for president as a Republican. Steven Douglas ran as a Democrate. These two canidates were complete opposites. Lincoln ended up winning the election which now made the United States a republican state. Steven Douglas also issued the Freeport Doctrine to control the issue with slavery.

    Abraham Lincoln gave the gettysburg address a funeral memorial for those who died in the battle of Guettysburg. The ceremony lasted for 3 days. The speech iteself lasted two minutes.
