  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Court Case that desegregated public schools and called "separate but equal" education unconstitutional.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    The bus boycotts protesting segregation. Organized by African-Americans after the arrest of Rosa Parks due to her refusal to give up her seat on a bus.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Attempted integration of Little Rock high school in Arkansas. Met with violent opposition and needed armed protection.
  • Greensboro sit-ins

    Four African-American students staged a sit-in at a segregated lunch counter.
  • March on Washington

    MLK marched to washington and delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech to a huge audience.
  • Civil Rights Act

    Outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or nationality and prohibited segregation.
  • Malcolm X Assassination

    Malcolm X gets assassinated in New York
  • Women's Liberation Movement

    fought for eqaulity in employment, education and repro. rights
  • Voting Rights Act

    Signed by LBJ and was intended to overcome legal barriers at the state and local level that prevented African-Americans from voting
