Civil Rights NAACP

  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

    Established in 1909 and was one of the largest and oldest civil rights organization. Formed by black activists due to on going violences towards Black Americans.
  • U.S. Supreme Court’s 1954 Decision

    The NAACP was able to play an important, vital and key role in the U.S supreme courts decision in Brown V. Board of Education that changed, and forbid segregation in public schools.
  • March on Washington

    The NAACP were a big help on The March on Washington, the NAACP helped organize and run one of the largest mass protests in civil rights history.
  • Mississippi Freedom Summer

    NAACP worked side by side in the very big freedom movement. NAACP posted bail for hundreds of freedom riders in the 60's who traveled to Mississippi to challenge jim Crows policies.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    During this time period, the NAACP was able to successfully get the passage of landmark legislation, which led to the act of 1965 where it prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    NAACP helped so much with the Civil Rights Act of 1964, their contributions stayed steady with this voting act which outlawed discriminating voting practices in southern states.
  • Black Supreme Court Justice

    Civil Rights attorney by the name of Thurgood Marshall, head of the NAACP legal defense, helped fight the Brown V. Board of Education and served as the first Black Supreme Court Justice.
