  • Ending of the White Primary

    It disallowed polling areas to deny people the right to vote because of their skin color. This relates to Georgia because the case about this was brought about in Georgia because a black man was denied the right to vote in Muscogee County, Georgia.
  • Herman Talmadge

    Was part of the Three Gorvernors Controversy which was when three people felt that the Governor position of Georgia belonged after the death of Eugene Talmadge before he was inogerated into office. Later on Herman won and went on to serve from 1947-1954. This relates to Georgia because this was deciding who would lead our state and the controversy made the state look bad and unorganized.
  • Brown vs Board of Education

    After a long time of battling in the local courts the case was taken to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court decided to desegregate schools. This was a major win for the Civil Rights Movement. This relates to Georgia because since Georgia is a southern state many schools were segregated and when the Supreme Court decided to unsegregate schools it made many white schools and people were angry.
  • Sibley Commission

    It was when the governor was deciding whether to integrate or keep schools segregated so he left it up to the legislative and they integrated schools when made many people angry. The reason it was important to Georgia though was because it had a huge impact on Georgia.
  • SNCC

    It was a group of students who do non-violent marches and sit in to help further the Civil Rights Movement. This relates to Georgia because sit in and marches took place in Georgia.
  • Albany Movement

    A movement to help desegregate more things like businesses. They used ways like the SNCC and did sit ins and marches. This was relavent to Georgia because because at the time many businesses were still not allowing black people use certains things that were "White Only."
  • Civil Rights Act

    This was an act signed by Lyndon B. Johnson to end all discrimnation because of someones race, religion, or sex. Whether this be lower wages or not being allowed into somewhere.
  • Lester Maddox

    Was the 75th governor of Georgia and was the first one to hire black officials into office evne though he supported segregation.
  • Maynard Jackson

    He was an politician and was the first black mayor of Atlanta. Was also a key person in the Civil Rights Movement to help end segregation across the country.
  • Andrew Young

    Was the first black representive of congress. Was the second black mayor of Atlanta and helped bring the Olympics to Georgia in 1996. Also, was a Civl Rights activist and helped MLK Jr.
