    This movement was designed to oppose racial violence. The movement pushed for African Americans to gain their civil rights. The groups of this movement participated in many marches demanding their rights, all through peaceful protest.

    Brown vs. Board of Education
    On May 17th, 1954, the ruling for the Brown Vs. Board of Education case overturned the ruling of the Plessy Vs. Ferguson case. This ruling allowed "seperate but equal" in public places, such as public schools. The decision by the court showed that seperate education was unequal.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott

    The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a public movement on the racial segregation on public transportation. Rosa Parks was the biggest influence of this boycott, after being arrested for not wanting to move to the back of a bus. After a long thirteen months of protest, the court called segregation of public transportation unconstitutional.

    SCLC- Southern Christian Leadership Conference
    This group of ministers and civil rights leaders met in order to get similar results gained during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Martin Luther King Jr. at the time was their leader. This group was aiming to take away segregation away and looked at other problems such as war and poverty.

    Peaceful marches and sit-ins were being conducted in Birmingham to protest segregation within the city. The response to these protests would result in violence with hoses from police, men, women, and even children.

    The purpose of this March on Selma was to achieve voting rights to African Americans. Police brutality started to occur once the protests wouldn't stop. However, this march produced the voting rights legislation in Selma.

    Watts Riots
    An altercation took place between two white officers and an African American male who was suspected of drunk driving. Soon others surrounded the scene, furious by the abuse of police. After five days of violence and rioting, many were dead, injured and arrested.

    This act was put into place to help children with limited English. The motto was "No children left behind."

    On April 4th, 196, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated outside of a motel in Memphis. His murderer was James Earl Ray.
