    The compromise of 1850 consist of 5 laws passed that address the issue of slavery and territorial expansion. As apart of the compromise the fugitive slave act was amended and required that slaves to be returned to their owners even if they were in a free state.

This them caused pro slavery and anti slavery activists to flock there to try and sway the vote.
