    CLIU Opening Day

    Social Media PresentationIn an effort to reinvent and revitalize the way in which we communicate with stakeholders to meet them where they are, we have launched a social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. In these venues, we will be highlighting classroom activities, special programs, awards and recognitions, and upcoming events. We encourage anyone with a stake in CLIU21 activity to like our Facebook page or follow us on Twitter.
  • eLearn 21 Launch

    eLearn 21 Launch
    With the official launch, we opened with fourteen students across four districts enrolled full-time in eLearn 21. Based on the ADM, 2 out of our 5 districts immediately re-capturing funds from cyber placements. Additional, we have prepared 2013-2014 cost benefit analysis for all of our districts to help recoup lost funding to other cyber vendors.

    Muhlenburg College Technology Workshops

    In cooperation with the Education Department, our Eductaional Technology staff provided technology workshops to Pre-Service teachers at Muhlenburg College.

    Teacher Effectiveness Workshops

    C&I/Ed Tech partnered with HR to provide professional development for teachers on the PA Teacher Effectiveness Model. Over fourteen workshops have been conducted throughout the fall. Additional workshops are planned for the spring
  • Professional Development Catalog

    In an effort to communicate all the the options for professional development available for contract at CLIU, we have developed a Professional Development Catalog. This catalog highlights seminars, workshops, trainings, and CPE courses available for groups or individuals through various departments in the IU. You can access the Professional Development Catalog on the CLIU website or Facebook page.

    Content Area Networkshops

    Staff Development Facilitators, Cathy Enders and Colleen Lenett, resumed the very popular Content Networking Groups this year with a focus on the PA Common Core. Districts are encouraged to send content area leaders to these workshops to discover tools that will help them transform their curriculum with the PA Common Core in mind. Teachers also have the opportunity to talk to colleagues in other districts and share idea.

    Unpacking the Common Core
    In October and November we provided overviews of the latest Common Core information for principals, reading specialist, federal programs, RTII coordinators and any other specialists. Topics included: PDE Timeline; Key Advances in ELA & Math; Instructional Shifts; Rigor.
  • PVASS

    PVASS
    These September and October sessions provided participants froom our local districts with a basic overview of the PVAAS reporting specific to targeted grade levels and subject areas. Participants “looked forward” with PVAAS projections (projection methodology) and “looked back” at PVAAS value-added reporting available.
  • Student Forum

    Student Forum
    Student Forum is a group of high school student representatives from the Carbon & Lehigh school districts. The group meets monthly for a career based networking session. On October 10, participants traveled to Jim Thorpe and visited the Old Jail and the Carbon County Courthouse. During these visits they learned about owning your own business in a tourist town and all about the various career opportunities in the county court of common pleas. Weatherly High School was this month’s host school.
  • Schools Cannot Do It Alone

    Schools Cannot Do It Alone
    On October 10, 2012, nationally acclaimed public school advocate, Jamie Vollmer presented a seminar and discussion based on his book, "Schools Cannot Do It Alone." Schools Cannot Do It Alone confronts the threats to public education, and presents a practical, doable plan to increase student success. Vollmer’s community-based program, called “The Great Conversation,” provides step-by-step instructions to tackle the major obstacles to school improvement.

    Teachers and staff from CLIU 21 took the oppotunity to learn more about Facebook, Twitter and the appropriate use of social media at after school and lunch time workshops held in the fall.
