Chris Graduates College
Chris graduated from Emory University with a 3.72 GPA and was a columnist, and editor of the scholl's student newspaper, "The Emory Wheel." He was offered membership in Phi Bet Kappa but refused the offers. He insisted that titles and honors were irrelevant to his cause. -
McCandless has near death experience
While out on a hike around Lake Mead, Chris McCandless had his journal with him to document his encounters. He wrote, "Tremendous mistake.... In extreme July temperatures becomes delirious." Luckily, he comes across some boaters who help him out and take him back home. -
Chris Abandons Car
Chris abandons his car after it is damaged by a flash flood. He decides to pack up all of his belongings and hitchike along the road. He had hidden the license plate and had burned all of the paperwork that the car had and set out for his adventure. Later on a park ranger had discovered his car and got much use out of it in October 1990. -
McCandless Ticketed
Chris McCandless was ticketed for hitchiking while near the Willow Creek. The arresting officer demanded to know where Chris' permanent place of residence was and Chris had to resort back to his parents, destroying his overall plan to suceed on his own. -
Chris reaches Mexican border
Chris reached the Morelos Dam, but didn't have any identification to be able to cross the Mexican Border. He found his way through Mexico using the dam's open floodgates. "He goes unnoticed and records in his journal, "Alexander is jubilant!" -
Chris Arrested
Chris is again arrested, but this time he is arrested by the U.S. Immigration officals when he tried to sneak back into the U.S. after easily getting into Mexico. He then spends one night in jail until he is let loose. -
Chris Tries for Society
Chria attempts to return back to society by applying for a job and a new I.D. This fails for him and he decides to continue to be on the road and hitchike his way to his destination. -
Franz's Offer
Ron Franz had offered to take Chris to Grand Junction, olorado because it was the furhtest he could take Chris without missing an appointment. To Ron's surpise, Chris accepted immediately. Before their departure, Ron had given McCandless: a machete, an arctic parka, a collapsible fishing pole, and some other gear for his Alaskan adventure. -
Franz drops Chris off
Franz dropped Chris off on the shoulder of Interstate 70 outside Grand Junction. McCandless was thrilled when he was able to move north and continue on his Alaskan journey. -
Chris Arrives at Bullhead City
Chris arrives at Bullhead City, Arizona where he once again tries to reconnect with society. He works at a McDonald's for two months and seeks shelter in an RV overseen by an elderly man named Charlie. -
The Start
Chris McCandless starts his adventure just north of Mt. Mckinley as he tries to become one with nature. -
Chris McCandless' Death
Scientists discovered that Chris had died about 4 months after the start of journey. His body weighed only about 67 pounds and scientists believed that starvation was the most probable cause of McCandless' death
