When the Japaensse defeated the great Chinese empire in 1894 over the control of the Korea area, the public opinion changed about the Dynasty and overall nationalist sentiment. -
End of the Manchu Dynasty
China was ruled by the Qing Dynasty for along time, it was a semifeudal system and the people were not happy in the way the government was rulling so the Dynasty was overthrown. -

Sen Yixian was in the United States before the Manchu Dynasty was overthrown, when he returned he froced the abdication of Pu- Yi and he started a Republic. -
Creation of the GMD
Since the abdication the President Sen Yixian founded the GMD (Guomitang) It was a party that was based in 3 main principles; Democracy, Nationalism and People´s Livelihood. -
The May Fourth Movement
When the first World War ended China was humiliated with the terms of the Treaty of Versailles and the students were not glad about it so the gathered in Bejing to protest about it. This event changed the ideology of China because it boosted nationalism and industrialization. -
Warlord Era
This was not an exact event, it was a period of time between 1919-1928 in which the Warlords of every province decided to take control and fight against each other, they conditions were the worst. -
Creation of the CCP
This was an important event because this party will become one of the most influential factions of the Chinese Civil War. This party was communist and has a great feeling of nationalism, they were inspired by the Bolsheviks. -
The United Front Alliance
The CCP had the public support, it was a growing ideology and the GMD had the military means to achieve the end of the Warlord Era. The leaders of this two parties decided to help each other to fight against the military nobles. -
The Northern Expedition
The GMD and the CCP had control of the southern regions, they have gained it through political dominance and military achievments but they knew they had to conquer China entirely for the republic to function. The Northern Expedition is the Military campaign to gain control over China. -
The Purification Movement
After the United Front gained control over the Northern Regions the Guomindang leaders tarted to worry about communism popularity. They began to persecute, kill and arrest communists in cities and villages, this movement took the life of 250,000 people, the CCP was forced to flee into the Jiangxi Mountains.
