    Shang Dynasty
    The Shang dynasty was created in the 1500’s BC. The Shang was founded and ruled by Shang emperors and they ruled much of Northern China. The priest believed they could use cattle bones to be heated and then cracked so they could read the future. Words to know: Cattle bones-

  • Zhou Dynasty

    Zhou Dynasty
    The Zhou dynasty was founded in 1100’s BC. The Zhou empire was founded by the rebels that overthrew the Shang empire. One of the rebels later became the emperor. The Zhou claimed that they were chosen by heaven to rule China. Gave land to people in order for loyalty and military work to be exchanged. Words to know: Mandate of heaven—

  • Qin

    Qin
    The Qin was founded in 221 BC. A king from Qin managed to unify all of China under his control and name himself emperor. Shi Huangdi was the emperor. He created a uniform system of writing that eliminated minor differences between regions. Most importantly built the great wall.     Han
    Began in 205BC. Liu bang a peasant wound up being the emperor in the Han dynasty. Their emperor Liu bang was the first common person to become emperor. Experts at figure painting which is a style of painting that includes portraits of people. Words to know: Sundial- A device that uses the position of shadows cast by the sun to show the time of day.     Sui
    Founded in year 589. Their emperor was Yang Jian. Leaders of the Sui dynasty restored order in China and began the Grand canal.     Tang
    Founded in the year 618. Their emperor was the first female empress Wu. Referred to as the Golden age for China because Tang rulers conquered many lands, it reformed the military, and also created new law codes. Words to know: Empress—A female emperor.     Song
    Founded in year 960 and had no emperor. Made the Tang’s capital Chang’an a huge bustling trade center called Xi’an. With a population of more than a million, it was by far the largest city ever. Chang’an was also known as a religious and philosophical center, not just for Buddhists and Daoists but for Asian Christians as well. Learned to make porcelain.
