The Grand Canal is the longest canal or artificial river in the world. The canal is 1,400 miles long, the canal starts at Beijing and runs to Hangzhou. During wartime the canal was purposely broken to stop the enemies from advancing forward. The Canal was later repaired to ship goods back to china.

The Deadliest Earthquake on Record,killing over 800,000 people.More than 97 counties in the provinces of Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu and Anhui were affected by the quake. In some counties 60% of the population was killed. After the earthquake aftershocks continued miultiple times a month for half a year.
