  • William B. Hartsfield

    William B. Hartsfield
    He was one of the most greatest mayors of Atlanta and a man with the most humble origins. He had served a six year term, longer than any other person in the city's history. During the critical period Hartsfield held office and the city's population grew from 100,000 to a population of one million.
  • Brown v. board of education

    Brown v. board of education
    This was a United States supreme case in which the court wanted laws that states to different public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. The decision was overturned in the Plessy v. Ferguson decision which allowed state sponsored segregation, as it applied public schools. As a resulted separate education was a violation of the 14th amendment of the United States Constitution.
  • Ivan Allen Jr.

    Ivan Allen Jr.
    Allen was another mayor for Atlanta from 1962 to 1970. He was creadited with help leading the city during the era of significant physical and the state's growth and maintaining calm during the civil rights movement. Other southern states were experiencing violence the leaders of Atlanta led in parts by Mayor Allen were able to broker more peaceful paths to integration.

    The Falcons became the first professional football team of the city of Atlanta and the fifteenth National Football League [NFL] franchise in existence. Since the first preseason at Atlanta stadium the Falcons have become a mainstay in Atlanta culture.

    The Hawks has called Atlanta home since 1968. The Hawks joined the Braves and the Falcons as a professional sports team in Georgia.

    Herman Talmadge
    Talmadge was the son of Eugene Talmadge served as governor for Georgia and again from 1948 to 1954. In 1956 Talmadge was elected as U.S senate where he served until his defeat in 1980.
  • Atlanta Braves

    Atlanta Braves
    After spending 27 years in Boston Massachusetts and 13 in Milwaukee and Wisconsin the Braves moved in Atlanta to begin the 1966 major league baseball season. The move made the Atlanta Braves the first professional baseball league to call the deep south home.

    He is best known as the longtime president of the More house college in Atlanta. May is an African American minster, educator, scholar and social activist. He was also a great mentor to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

At the end of Eugene's death his supports though of a plan that made the Georgia legislature elect a new governor on Jan. 1947. The General Assembly elect Eugene's son Herman Talmadge as governor, the lieutenant governor who was elected Melvin.E. Thompson said he wanted that office and outgoing governor Ellis Arnall did not wanted to leave office.
