Charles Perkins was born on the 16th of June 1936 in Alice Springs. His mother gave birth to him on a table in the Alice Spring’s Telegraph Station.

Charles Perkins got a job as an apprentice fitter and turner for the British Tube Mills company in Adelaide. He did this job until he was scouted by Everton in 1957.

Charles Perkins was a very talented soccer player and in 1957, he was approached by a scout from the English soccer club Everton to have a trial with the team. He could not break into the team so he moved back toAustralia to play locally.

Charles Perkins got married to Eileen Munchenberg who was born in Germany. the couple later went on to have 3 kids named Adam, Rachel, and Hetti.

Charles Perkins led a freedom ride of a group of people from his University (University of Sydney). The purpose was to draw public attention to the poor state of aboriginal health, education and housing.

Charles Perkins accepted a research officer position in the Office of Aboriginal Affairs. This was the start of his career as a public servant.

Charles Perkins was named the 'Aboriginal of the Year' by the National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee for his work and fight for the rights of indigenous Australians.

Charles Perkins died on the 19th of October 2000. Perkins died of renal failure. During the 1930s Perkins had a kidney transplant and when he died he was the longest post-transplant survivor in Australia.
