    Early Years of Charles Darwin

In the early years of Charles Darwin, born on Feb 12 1809 in Shrewburgy England by Robert Darwin and Susannah Wedgewood. Darwin went to study medicine at Edinburgh University in 1825. While in school he went a different route then medicine, as he didn’t like anatomy or surgery. Darwin went more of a naturist route studying invertebrate zoology. Darwin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1831.
  • Voyage on Beagle

Darwin set sail on the Beagle on Dec 27, 1831 from England to South America. The young Darwin experienced some hardships being aboard the ship. Darwin was able to leave the ship for longer periods of time to chase his own interests, by doing so Darwin only spent 18 months on the ship. He spent months in Rio de Janeiro where he was delighted to be among nature and tropical splendors.
  • Into the voyage

During his 2-year trip Darwin became fascinated with fossil discovery. Finding huge remains of mammals pushed Darwin to thinking about what caused these creatures to die out. At the end of his trip Darwin finished his 770 page diary, drew up 12 catalogs of the skin and bones he had discovered. Yet he still wondered about nature and why certain animals went extinct.
  • Thinking Big

In 1834 Darwin became sick and was sent to a workhouse which separated men from the woman. Darwin realized that the population would lead to the struggle of resources and the competition would weed out the unfit. Darwin linked this to nature, where he thought that animal population was stable in the wild. Darwin confided to his wife about his thoughts on evolution which shocked her. In 1842 Darwin drafted his theory of natural selection but did not intend on publishing it.
  • Evolution

In the 1850s it became safer for Darwin and his theory on natural selection. Some of Darwin’s experiments dealt with flowers, showing that they were not just here to appeal to humans. The flowers beauty would attract more insects to cross pollinate. Another piece of work was the studying of orangutans at the London Zoo. While studying them he paid close attention to the facial features of his 10 children and how they were similar.
  • The End

Charles Darwin passed away on April 19 1882 from a heart attack.
