    The Creation of the Duel Alience
    The Duel Alliance was made between Austria-Hingary and Germany. This alliance was formed because chancellor, Otto von Bismarck, believed that France was a threat to peace. This was significant because this is the begginning of the tensions rising in Europe which led to the other countries hating each other. Alliance System - agreements or promises to defend and help another country.

    Creation of the Triple Allience
    3 years after the Duel Alliance was formed, Italty joined, making it the Triple Alliance. This is significant because it shows that the countries are coming together and shutting out the other couintries. Triple Allience: an agreement between three countries.
  • Kaiser Wilhelm II

    Kaiser Wilhelm II
    In 1890 Kaiser Wilhelm II forced Bismark to resign so that he could become the ruler of Germany. Wilhem wanted to show the world how powerful Germany was. However, the treaty that Germany made with Russia failed because of him. This is significant to the war because it shows the the countries are starting to think that they are better than each other which causes tension.

    Russia and France Alliance
    After the treaty with Germany failed for Russia, Russia formed a defensive military alliance with France in 1892 and 1894. This alliance was terrible for Germany because it meant that they would have to fight a war with both countries on both the eastern and western sides of the boarder. This is significant because European countries are staring to team up with each other against other countries as well as become enemies with others.

    In the early 1900s and by 1914 countries all over Europe had armies ready to fight if need be. Countries were proud of their armies and felt it necessary to have militarism. This is significant because it pushed the countries towards the war. Miltarism - building up armed forces getting ready for war.

    In 1905 and in 1911, Germany and France fought over who would control Morocco, in Northern Africa. However, the majority of Europe supported France, so Germany backed down. This event is significant because it shows how imperialism led to intense competition and conflict between Euorpean countries. Imperialism - Empire Building, competition, for colonies.

    Triple Entente
    Britian formed an alliance with France when they felt threatened by Germany. By 1907 they made another entente with Russia forming the Triple Entente. This is significant because the unified countries are showing hatred toward other countries and working together to keep the enemies away. This leads to the start of the war. Triple Entente - similar to an alliance, it is an agreement between three countries.

    Austria annexing Bosnia and Herzegovina
    In 1908 Austria-Hungary took over Bosnia and Herzegovina, two areas with huge slavic populations. The slavs had strong nationalism and Austria-Hungary hated it. This is significant because countries are taking over other countries and tenisions are rising within the countries. Nationalism - having pride in your country, willing to defend it.

    Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand
    On June 28, 1914 the Archduke and his wife Sophie, went to vist Sarajevo in an open car. There were murderers lined up all along the street. However, each one of the assassins failed to shoot the Archduke while the car was passing by. But later the car took a wrong turn where one on the assassins happened to be and he killed them. This was a huge spark for the war because actual killings took place which led to countries taking it out on other countries.

    First Delclaration of War
    On July 28, 1914 Austria delclared war on Serbia. Russia is Serbia's ally so Russia became involved as well. Other countries took notice and wanted to sort things out but it was too late. This is significant because this is an actual statement of war being made to a country.
  • Succession of Wars

    Succession of Wars
    After Austria delcared war on Serbia and Russia got involved, Russia thought Germany would get involved so they went along the German boarder, which led to Germany declaring war on Russia and France. No too far after Britain declared war on Germany. This is significant because now much of Europe is going to battle with each other.
