    Capture of the Sailors
    This is considered the biggest cause of the War of 1812. The British were capturing American sailors and forcing them into their navy. From 1803 to 1810 the British had captured about forty-five hundred American sailors from American ships. This did not make the U.S. happy, and going to war was a consideration.
  • Increasing Size

    Increasing Size
    The Louisiana Purchase was considered the Manifest Denstiny. The destiny to move west from the Atlantic ocean to the Pacific ocean. It merely doubled the size of the U.S. and that is what allowed the Western Expansion. The purchase made it so that the U.S. has much more responsiblity for their land and only got it for $15 million. Since it took place while Jefferson was till in office and it was his idea to go forth with it, it made him more popular and resulted in him being re-elected in 1804.

    The conflict between France and Britain is what lead to the blockade where France did not want any British goods. They went to war and without it, the blockade may not have happened which could have a caused different results in the future. The blockade made the U.S. suffer, thereofre without it America wouldn't have it as a reason to fight.

    Thomas Jefferson was re-elected for second term as president. He was more popular now that he purchased 1/3 of the land of the U.S. With him serving another year, he made choices that had a very large impact on the U.S. and Europe which are considered as reasons to go to war. For example, the Embargo Act of 1807, it hurted America very much and a cause of the War of 1812

    After Napoleon declraed that the French would block British goods in Europe, the British blocked Europe's ports. Therefore, that means no importing and no exporting. This makes the U.S. suffer because their exports were being seized, ships were being captured, cargoes were confiscated, and France tried to capture any American ships for supplies. The U.S. was now more upset with Britain because of what they did, they were more of a threat.

    The British wanted to check the American ships that were out at sea for any British deserters. However, the US caprain of the ships refused to let them check their ships. This angered the Brtish and they open fired. They killed three Americans and wounded eighteen.

    The Chesapeake Incident struck Jefferson and created the Embargo Act of 1807. This put a ban on exporting products to all countries. He thought he was punishing Britian and other European nations, however, it also hurt themselves. It hurt American businesses because they couldn't make a profit.

    Since James Madison was elected, he had some different ideas about how the nation should run. He removed the Embargo Act before he took office and didn't want to be neutral. By not being neutral his ideas leaned more towards going to war, which wouldbe the War of 1812.

    War Hawks had big influence on going to war, they really wanted to fight. Hence, their nicknames "war hawks". They were southern and western men who were in favor of going to war. The reason they wanted to fight was becuase they were angry witht he Natives that occupied the Indiana Territory.

    Realizing that the Embargo Act of 1807 was hurting America more so than what they wanted, which was to hurt Europe. With the U.S.'s busisnesses hurting, they may be percieved as weak in the eyes of other countries. Thereofre, they would be easy to wreck even more and take back the states so there is not America anymore. America had to show they were not weak, which they started by showing that in 1809 when Madison removed the Embargo Act.
