    Combined many bills as an omnibus so they could pass
    -Texas joins the union as a slave state
    -California joins the union as a free state
    -Popular sovereignty to decide slavery in new areas
    -Banned the slave trade in Washington D.C.
  • Fugitive Slave Act

    Fugitive Slave Act
    Was part of the Compromise of 1850,allowed slaves that fled to free states to be taken back to thier "owners", and if you didn't help the slave catchers you could be fined and jailed.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin publication
    Published by Harrriet Beecher Stowe, it helped to lay the groundwork for the civil war by giving people a look at a dramaticized version of what it was like to be a slave.
  • Kansas-Neraska Act

    Kansas-Neraska Act
    Created the territores of Kansas and Nebraska, as well as opening them up for settlement. Overrulled the Misouri Compromise by allowing vote to decide slavery in these areas.

    Ruled that Blacks are not American Citizens. Also said that the federal Government had no right to regulate slavery in newly acquired territories.

    Led 18 men into the small town of Harpers Ferry to try and instigate a slave rebellion, but failed and was executed for treason. "I John Brown am now quite certain that the crimes ofthis guilty land will never be purged away; but with Blood."
