It was a movement led by students in response to The Treaty of Versailles. A demonstration took place in beijing against the warlords, the Japanese and traditional culture.
China had joined the Allies, this event was seen as a "rebirth". A new nation, indepndent and inspired by the Bolshevik revolution -

GMD and CCP wanted to unify China by creating a front in order to fight the warlords.
Yixian's third principle "people's livelihod" convinced the Commitern this front can be trusted.

GMD and CCP went to an expedition to finaly crush the warlords, ended in a success. -
Shanghai Massacre a.k.a "The White Terror"
Was Jiang peak attack against the CCP. Jiang turned the powerful "workers" against the rival party. 5000 communists were killed -
CCP almost extinct
Jiang's purification movement killed around 250000 people (mainly communists) causing the near death of the CCP -
Jiangxi Soviet
thanks to the attacks against the CCP, the party was forced to retreat to Jiangxi.
