Only two students and Dr. Harwood were involved during the beginning semester of the project in Spring 2009.

Dr. Harwood along with 2 architecture & planning students sketched a diagram for a new Tot-Spot at Muncie Children's Museum (MCM).

Dr. Harwood worked with a group of 15 during the second semester of the project. Ideas developed for each area of the tot spot from August through December 2009.

The 15 students involved in the project broke into groups at the beginning. Throughout the semester the groups developed designs for each area within the Tot-Spot.

Dr. Harwood and the architecture and planning students did not work on the Tot Spot Project at all during spring 2010.

Dr. Harwood spent the summer working on the scope of the project and a 20-page budget.

Dr. Harwood spent the summer preparing for the project's beginning in the fall. She created a 20-page budget with her free-time throughout the summer!

During the fall semester the budget designed the previous summer was finalized and approved. Students began working on mockettes of what the areas in the tot spot. They also spent time touring other Children's museums throughout Indiana.

College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) had a meeting with MCM & the budget was approved

Students spent time in the shop developing prototypes to present to MCM later in the month.

Dr. Harwood & students presented the prototypes they developed throughout September to the board of directors at MCM.

Dr. Harwood and her students visited the Indianapoli Children's Museum multiple times throughout the semester. Taking trips to other museums helped the students get ideas and realize how children play. They took pictures during their visits so they could analyze materials and designs when they got back to BSU.

After building prototypes & testing materials, the students start construction in the Tot Spot at MCM. The first 2 phases will be complete by May 6, 2011.

The students turned in thhe cost & materials list for approval.

"It’s never a question if something is going to break. It’s when." -Mary Slafkoski MCM Director. The students and MCM hosted an hour-long test of the prototypes they built. The idea is to test materials on toddlers' reaction. According to the student builders, you never know what a toddler may think of.

On March 28th the students moved their materials and their efforts to the museum to begin construction.

Each Monday throughout the semester, the students gathered for a meeting each Monday afternoon to make plans for the crews over the next week.

Students worked on their assigned tasks each Wednesday afternoon from 1p.m.-7p.m.

Students also worked each Friday from 1p.m.-5p.m.

The first two phases of the Tot-Spot will open May 6. There will be a grand opening for the public from 5-6:30 p.m.

The final phase of the Tot Spot is expected to be complete sometime during the fall semester in 2011.
