Brittany Gould: Technology Evolution

  • Born

I was born in 1985. This year several colleges started their own domains.

I was in the fourth grade and remember getting my first Walkman. I had also received several new cassette tapes to play on the Walkman. I kept this piece of technology until the late 90's.

  • First Computer

    First Computer
My parents bought a computer in 1995. It was huge and very bulky. I can remember the printer took paper that was connected. We were only permitted to use it for school work. The significance was that our family was able to communicate with others and we could do homework on the computer.

  • AOL

    AOL
I can still hear the buzz of the dial up loading onto AOL. I was not permitted to use AOL until I was in the eighth grade, but we had it forever. I actually remember in high school, my parents still had dial up access instead of DSL.This created an opportunity for my parents to connect with family outside of our state. It was life changing to myself and my siblings, because we could access virtually anything. Photo/Video Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFuUCpBbbHw
  • Cordless Phones

Phones with rotary dial were the style of phones in the 80's and early 90's. I can still remember when my mother purchased a cordless phone. My dad was so confused as to how it worked without a cord. It was an awesome piece of technology for us, considering we were a family of six and always wanted privacy.
  • Compact Disc

    Compact Disc
N'Sync, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Brandy were my first CD's. I got them for Christmas, along with a new CD player. It was purple and changed how I listened to music. I went from a Walkman to a CD player. Photo: dreamstime.com
  • Cell phone

I got my first Nokia cell phone when I was a senior in high school. It was the best thing ever! I loved the freedom of being able to call my mom wherever I was. Of course these have changed over the years, but I still crave a simple phone at times. This allowed individuals to connect with family, schools, parents, or friends while they were on the go.
  • Period: to

    Masters Degree

One awesome aspect of technology would be that I was able to complete two masters programs completely at home. I had never even considered going back until this happened.
  • IPads

    IPads
I had never used an IPad before I started teaching. In 2012, our school purchased IPads for the teachers to use in class. It was amazing the things you can do. From classroom activities to apps that were for teachers only. The best outcome of IPad's were that we are able to have them for every student. Photo: shuttershock.com
