Captain Arthur Phillip arrived in Botany Bay with the First Fleet.

In England, the jails had become over crowded. They needed to put the convicts somewhere else. The British had just lost the War of Independence in America, so the British couldn't transport the convicts there. The British Government decided to transport the convicts to the unknown land called New South Wales.

The British Government chose the site of Adelaide on the well watered plains to have a colony which they called the South Australian Colony. Close to the inlet sea was Port Adelaid. Influenced by reporters by ealier visitors, the South Australian Colony settled on Kangaroo Island.

European settlement of Queensland began in 1824 when Lieutenant Henry Miller, commanding a detachment of the 40th Regiment of Foot, founded a convict outpost at Redcliffe.

The British govourment wanted to establish a colony for free settlers. The swan river colony started to struggle, so settlers began to move to the eastern colonys. The Bitish Govourment transported convicts to develop the western colony.

People then began to move from the Western Australian colony to the Eastern colony in New South Wales. The Bitish Government sent convics to develop the Western Australian colony.

Learning about the British Colonies is alot of fun because you get to know about what Australia looked like and how the colonies survived and how the colonies developed Australia. The most inportant thing about learning the History of Australia, is how they comunacated with the Aboriginal tribes. The British had disrespected the Abouriginal tribes and treated them like they were animals. But now we respect them and we care for what they do.

An aboriganal nattive named Bennelong, was captured in 1789 ordered by Govonor Philip so he could learn the language and how to survive in the land. Bennelong soon became a friend of Govonour Philip and soon Bennelong learnt how to speak English. But in May, Bennelong escaped and was never seen in a long time until in September, his tribe had been seen. Bennelong injured Philip with a spear which mean respect but was misunderstood and was never seen again. Bennalong died in 3rd of January 1803.
