  • Napoleon makes himself emperor of France.

    Napoleon Bonaparte was a military and political leader of France. He was also "emperor of the french". Napoleon Bonaparte coronation took place on December 2, 1804, in the cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris. At Napoleon ceremony he surprised everyone by not allowing the pope to crown him. Napoleon Bonaparte placed the crown on his own head and them crowned Josephine empress.

  • slave trade abolished in Britain

    In the 18th century Britain put an end to selling and buying humans. This slave trade began with Portuguese, and some Spanish, traders taking African slaves to America. British sailors then became involved in the trade in the 18th century. In England a group called 'The sons of Africa' started a letter writing campaign against the slave trade. After a huge campaign in 1807 the slave trade was finished.

  • Charles x controls succeeded as king of France

    Charles X who is also named Charles-Philippe, comte de'Artois, was the king of France. Charles was a very successful king he dramatized the failure of the Bourbons after they tried to reconcile the tradition of the monarchy. Charles X was crowned king after his brother Louis XVIII died in September 1824. Charles's government successfully extended Frances imperial power.

  • war of 1812

    The conflict fought between the United States and Great Britain over British violations of U.S maritime rights. More than half of the British forces were made up of Canadian volunteers because the British soldiers were fighting Napoleon in Europe. The war ended in 1814 when the Treaty of Ghent was signed, this meant that the United States and Britain would end their battle.

  • Gold discovered in Australia

    In 1851 gold was discovered by Edward Hargraves. Edward had just returned empty handed from the Californian Gold Rush and had a theory that Australia and California had lots of similarities. During the gold rush people had to have a claim and a licence to look for gold. A claim was a area of land that was 3.6 metres square. To keep the claim a minor had to work on it everyday except for Sundays when their was no mining allowed.

    On the 19th of September 1893 the governor, Lord Glascow, signed a Electoral Act in law. As a result of this, New Zealand became the first country in the world to give women the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
