1951 Elderidge Gonaway, who was African American, was elected student body president. Phoenix Junior College was never a segregated school.

Phoenix Junior College transfered jurisdiction to be part of the Maricopa County Community College District. Glendale and Mesa Community College were extentions of Phoenix Junior College.
