  • Australia send AIF

    Australia sends in the second Australian Imperial Force (the first one was sent in World War 1). The Ssecond AIF faught against the Nazi's, the Kingdom of Italy, Vichy France and the Empire of Japan.
  • Australia sends ground forces to Malaya

    With the increase of Japanese influencing power in Southeast Asia, Australia begins to feel pressured.
  • HMAS Sydney missing

    HMAS (Her Majestys Australian Ship) Sydney is missing and believed that it had been sunk.

  • British battleship and battle cruiser sunk

    British battleship "Prince of Wales" and battle cruiser "Repulse" are sank by the Japanese Air Force off the coast of Malaya.

    Japanese reconnaissance landings on New Guinea start a bloody campaign that will directly threaten the Australian homeland.
  • Singapore falls to the Japanese

    Singapore falls to Japanese troops. General Percival capitulates with 70,000 men, among them the Australian AIF 8th Div.
  • Japanese try to reach Port Moresby using the Kokoda track.

    A Japanese land force tries to reach Port Moresby from Buna using the Kokoda track. In two months of savage fighting the Australian defenders manage to stop them 48 km short of Port Moresby. The Japanese falled back to Buna and made an encampment there as a last stand.
