The Ash Wednesday bushfires, were a series of bushfires that occurred in south-eastern Australia on 16 February 1983. Around 180, with at least 100 in Victoria alone. There were 75 deaths in total caused from the fires. 28 people died in South Australia and 47 in Victoria, including 21 at Upper Beaconsfield on the outskirts of Melbourne. More than 3,000 properties were destroyed by the tragedy.
