    Aborigines arrive in Australia
    One million aborigines people came from South East Asia. They had a strong spiritual connection with the land. Each group had developed skills for the area where they lived, they were on average 300 clans with 250 different languages. Despite the locations and languages difference, they all believe in the Dreamtime.

    Captain James Cook first sets foot in the east coast and take it for Britain. He named it New South Wales.
  • First Fleet of British ships.

    As England needed new penal colonies, they saw it as an opportunity. Captain Arthur Phillip came with the first shipload of 1500 people and 50% of them were convicts. They moved to Port Jackson, which now is part of the Sydney Harbour. January 26 stay an important date, it is now the national day of Australia.

    To everyone’s complete surprise, lots of officers, soldiers and emancipated convicts turned the land in something prosperous. So other British people came, at the expense of aborigines who suffered from their armed invasion in their territory.

Hargraves discovered gold in New South wales, but quickly, people heard about it and so, many of them coming from the colonies dug in order to find some. But, this gold rush had is disadvantage because it brought prostitute, illicit liquor-sellers, publicans and so on.

    The six colonies became one nation with a federal structure. Australia is part of the Commonwealth.

    Australia is in bad shape, lots of Australians financial institutions crashed and so appears significant social and economy divisions. But, it is the emergence of a main entertainment : sport.

    Raw materials such as wool and metal were highly demanded by other country so Australia’s export sector knew a huge increase. Also, it was a good period for Australians because there was a good standard of living, a high rate of employment. Moreover, Australia has benefited of the end of the second world war.

    Australians voted in favor of the national referendum to improve the rights of aborigines Australians. Such as being included in the national census, social security, education and stop the fact that they had different rights in different states.

    Australian labor party leader Kevin Rudd beat John Howard with a program who pledged for conservation of the environment, improvement of public services, establishment of equity in the workplace, and extrication of Australian troops in Iraq war.
