    Japan Leaves League of Nations
    This was one of Japan’s first acts agenised the allies before world war 2, where Japan tried to take over much of the Asia Pacific.
  • Anschluss Between Germany and Austria

    Anschluss Between Germany and Austria
    This alliance Germany made with Austria essentially made it a part of Germany. It was their first step to taking over a large chunk of Europe during World War 2. This happened after pressure from people of both nations. This was one of the major events leading up to World War 2.
  • Pearl Harbour

    Pearl Harbour
    Pearl Harbor causes the USA to enter World War 2 after initially not joining in. This attack was very significant considering that the Japanese had to go all that way to get to Hawaii. It was also one of the first major attacks on US soil.

    The Nagasaki Atom Bomb dropping by the Americans forced Japan to surrender to the US. But the bomb had devastating effects on Nagasaki and killed many people at the time. It also caused many birth defects in children born after the event, which carried on for many years after the event.

This has had a great effect on world affairs today, even though China isn’t as communist as it used to be. It was also part of the ‘domino effect’ of countries becoming communist after Russia and this lead to many wars in Vietnam, Korea and the Cold War.

    This was the day when the black people decided to not use the city busses until they were allowed to sit where they wanted. Martin Luther King, Jr. was involved. This boycott was not too significant on its own but it ended up resulting in a better life for black people later on. It also had a domino effect on other countries when fighting against racism.

    The White Australia Policy meant only European people could Immigrate to Australia. Much of the racism in Australia was eliminated when this happened and it lead up to the multicultural Australia that we see today.

    Snowy Mountains Scheme
    The Snowy Mountains Scheme was completed in this year. Today, these hydroelectric power generators supply power to Victoria, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. This project was bigger and more complex than anything attempted before and it was a defining moment in Australia's history, showing it could produce clean electricity.

    Invasion of Afghanistan
    Western Troops invaded Afghanistan as a direct result of the September 11 attacks. This conflict is still going on today and Osama Bin Ladin was assassinated during this conflict. It has cost over 3000 western lives to date as well as even more innocent people and insurgents.

    9/11
    The September 11 attacks are commonly recognized as the most devastating attacks of US soil since Pearl Harbor. Apart from tightening airport security, they also triggered the war on terror which included conflicts in the Middle East. Also, commercial jets had never been used in this way before, normally planes were hijacked and landed at an airport.
