    The Wall street stock market Crash in October 1929 was the most devasting stock market crash in American and world History. The affects of this crash started the 10 year Great depression.The actual crash went for several days, but it had many implications for many years to come, for example, people who bought shares in 1929 would not break even until most of their adult life had passed. This crash did not only effect America it effected the entire world, including Australia
  • Japanese Invasion of Manchuria.

    Japanese Invasion of Manchuria.
    On the 19th of September 1931 Manchuria was invaded by the Kwantung army of Japan. Japan held Manchuria for 5 months. The Chinese army tries unsucessfully to stop the invasion, most notably the fight lead by Chinese General Ma Zhanshan, which was unsuccesly fought by China. This only had minor implications on Australia as it showed what Japan were capable of, and that they were getting closer to invading Australia.     The Fall of Singapore
    On the 15th of Feb 1942 Lt Gen Arthur Percival signed the terms of surrender to Lt Gen Yamashita of Japan. This was the day Singapore fell the the Japanese.80,000 British, Indian and Australian soldiers all became POW to the Japanese. Japan now owned Singapore. Japan placed a flag on top of the highest building in Singapore, the Changi building, as a phychological blow towards the Allies. The photo on the left was the invasion currency implemented by the Japanese government in Singapore.

    Nagasaki Atomic Bombings.
    The Nagasaki Atomic bombings happened three days after the initial bombings bombings in Hiroshima, Japan. These bombings were undertaken by the United States after Japan ignored the Letter of Surrender sent by the U.S government. After the first bombing the US sent another letter of surrender which Japan also ignored. This forced the US to bomb another Japanese city, Nagasaki. After the Bombing of Nagasaki Japan finally signed the terms of Surrender. This meant Japan could not invade Australia

    Publication of Silent Spring.
    The Publication of the Book Silent Spring started the American environmental movement. The book told the world about the detrimental effects of pesticides and chemical waste in the environment. This book helped ban DDT in the US a deadly poison which was used to kill insects. This book also showed the world the posions we were using on a daily basis and helped us understand them and eridicate them in our daily lives. This is significant to Australia because it showed us the effects of poisons
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a 13 day Period between Cuba and the U.S.A, involving potential Nuclear warfare. The plan was for the Soviets to deliver nuclear weapons to the Cuban Army to protect them from possible US invasion of Cuba. If a nuclear strike did occur or the US did invade Cuba a potential 'WW3' could happen. This could have had extremely serious implications for Australia and the rest of the world. Many Americans bought bomb shelters to protect themselves from a potential bomb.

    1967 Referendum
    The Australian Referendum of 1967 changed two amendments in the Australian constitution regarding Aboriginal rights. These rights were letting the Aboriginal people vote and gain Australian citizenship, counting them as people in the Australian census. 90% of the voters voted yes to changing the ammendments, this proved for growing support of Aboriginies in Australia.

    The Chernobyl Nuclear disaster in Ukraine was a significant event that changed history because it was the first accidental nuclear disaster. To this date nobody can enter Chernobyl due to radiation poisioning. Only 31 people dies on the day, but deaths due to cancer, deformations and radiation poisionings are still being disputed. This is Significant to Australia and the rest of the world, because it showed us the potential dangers if Nuclear power and reactors

    Cloning of Dolly the Sheep
    Dolly the sheep was the first cloned mammal in history.This showed the world of a possibility of cloning humans or endangered species around the world. This scientific experiment was completed in the Roslin instittue in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is a significant event in the history of Science and the world.Horses,Cows and other animals have also been cloned using this technology. In the future this could be extremely helpful in creating new means of breeding and expanding the Animal Environment
