    The first Gold Rush in Australia occured in 1851 Melbourne became one of the great cities of the British Empire and the world. The Gold Rush brought upon many events which led up to multiculturalism in Australia, including the White Australia Policy. In short, the gold rush was a revolutionary event and reshaped Victoria, its society and politics.

    The Wall Street Crash is usually seen as the event that sparked the Great Depression. Together, they formed the largest financial crisis of the 20th Century. It was a devastating event that affected most of the world, including Australia but some people say was merely a historical event in continuing the process known as economic cycles. The impact of the crash was merely to increase the speed at which the cycle proceeded to its next level.

    This event in my opinion is one of the first and major reasons for the start of WW2. Western media reported on the events with accounts of atrocities such as bombing civilians, or firing upon shell-shocked survivors aroused considerable antipathy to Japan, which lasted until the end of World War II. This also led to Japan leaving the League of Nations and probably influenced in the decision to use nuclear on Japan.

    The attack on Pearl Harbour was a surprise of the Americans and was intended to stop America from interfering with Japan's plans but instead, caused America to enter the war directly and declare war on Japan the very next day. This attack increased America's dislike for Japan especially as there was no warning and negotiations were ongoing at the time.

    The atomic bombing of Nagasaki in the final stages of WWII represents the second use of nuclear weapons to date, three days after the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. With 60,000 - 80,000 people dead the Nagasaki bomb, it brought complete and utter destruction. It is the key factor to Japan surrendering WWII, officially ending the war.

After the success of this campaign, it caused the Australian Senate to pass the World Heritage Protection Bill. It also promoted the protection and restoration of wild and beautiful places across the Australian continent.
