    Christopher Columbus departs from Palos de la Frontera, Spain to find a sea route to Asia for the Spanish Crown with three ships. Two caravels, the Nina and the Pinta, and one carrack, the Santa Maria. He hoped to find a route to Japan. This was the first of his three voyages. he lobbied for these voyages for 2 years at the Spanish court before Queen Isabelle gave in.
