Ashley's Adventure

By KaessA
  • Birth

I was born in Alamosa Colorado as a premature baby. The night of my birth I nearly died twice.
  • Period: to

    Past

    birth to 12 years old
  • Moving Cities

We moved to Canon City Colorado when I was five months old.
  • Suffocation

When I was 18 months old my parents took me to my first big movie, but it freaked me out so much we had to leave. They put me to bed and woke up to me choking on my pacifier. They had to call 911.
  • Deadly Eye Infection

I contracted an eye disease that everyone disregarded as pink eye, except my mom. Even St. Thomas Moore Hospital dismissed it as anything serious. My mom took me to Dr. McCurrey and found out it could've killed me in another 24 hours.
  • Cut Off Date

I was prevented from going straight into kindergarten because I was a couple weeks too young. Due to this I am now about a year older than most of my peers. I don't think the school board thought that through...
  • Parents Divorce

When I was about 6 years old my parents got a divorce. It was a sad and confusing time for me, but ultimately for the better.
  • My First Best Friend

I met my first best friend, Kassidy, in kindergarten. We became super close, but lost touch when I moved schools. We regained contact again in middle school.
  • Skyline Elementary School

As a single mom, my mom moved us into an apartment complex behind Skyline Elementary. I began kindergarten there and my brother started second grade.
  • Moving Schools

My brother and I began 1st and 3rd grade at McKinley Elementary School. It was there I made my new best friends who I'm still connected with today: Lauren, Aaliyah, Lindsey and Lexi.
  • Step Dad

My mom and step dad got married at a beautiful summer wedding. My step dad became the prominent father figure in my life. He is more of a dad to me than my biological father.
  • Musical Passion

I first discovered my passion for music in fourth grade. This is when I began band at McKinley, playing the flute.
  • Middle School

I started middle school at CCMS and was promptly separated from many of my peers. This was when I was taught some kids were "simply smarter than others". Thus I was placed in advanced classes, a grade ahead of the other students.
  • Theater

In the 7th grade I discovered a love for theater. I participated in the middle school production after being cast in the play.
  • Friendship Fallout

My best friend of all time, Aaliyah, and I had a falling out. It involved other friends as well but it was ultimately the two of us. Our friendship fell apart for avoidable reasons. We've reconnected and are good friends again, but it's not the same.
  • Bullying

When Aaliyah and I had our falling out, her newfound friends began verbally attacking me. They cornered me in a bathroom and yelled at me to no end. I couldn't go to school the next day because it made me physically sick.
  • Depression

With the loss of my best friend, a crap father, school struggles and false rumors being spread about me, I went into a depression. I felt like I had no one and that I had no hope. It took me a long time to pull myself out, I had to do it alone.
  • Period: to

    Present

middle and high school years (teen years) 13 years to 18 years
  • 4th at State for Band

My freshman year the Marching Band got fourth at state. It was an exhilarating experience, there's nothing like it.
  • Standing up For Myself

One day I got so tired of my dad (biological) always bailing out on me, blaming things on me and frankly, not being a parent. So I called him out on it, respectfully, and it was extremely freeing. Of course he still turned it around on me but I gained some freedom and self assurance from it.
  • Massive Heart Attack

My granddad had a massive heart attack, three heart attacks in a row, which stopped his heart each time. The third time the nurses had to resuscitate him, they had to throw him onto the bed to restart his heart. He's alive and healthy today but has a pace maker now.
  • Ditched By New Best Friend

My best friend, Aly, ditched me for her boyfriend. She blamed everything at me, made up things and blatantly ignored me. This happened two more times, after believing things would be different and making up. We're good now but we've had a rocky ride.
  • My First Job

I started my first job as a student sweeper at McKinley Elementary School.
  • My Grandma Passes Away

After a long struggle with Alzheimer, my grandma passed away. Family was with her to say goodbye and let go. I was't there but I got to say goodbye about a week before. She didn't know any of us but she remembered she was (and is still and forever) loved by us, and that's what matters most. She's with God in Heaven now and I hope she knows she's in my heart and mind every day.
  • My First Serious Boyfriend

In July Conan and I began dating. He was my first serious boyfriend and I truly believe we were in love. Not adult "in love" of course, but immature teenage love. No one had ever treated me sweeter or with more respect, until our relationship started going downhill. But I don't regret the relationship because I learned and grew from it.
  • Car Accident

My granddad had a huge car accident where he drove off into a ditch, only after being propelled straight into the air. We almost lost him, this was easily the most terrifying thing to ever happen to me. He had several broken bones and still has to use a cane to this day.
  • Fourth at State Again

My sophomore year the Marching Band got fourth at state last year. It was an amazing experience as well, but I wish we would've gotten third.
  • The Breakup

Conan and I broke up because things just weren't the same. We knew it would be hard but we weren't happy anymore so it was a mutual agreement. I was heartbroken but I know it was the right decision. He was involved in stuff I don't agree with and he wasn't respecting me the way he used to. I wasn't perfect either of course, relationships are a two way street.
  • Working at The Pet Spa

I love working at the Pet Spa. I get to hang out with dogs all day and make them look adorable.
  • Brother Goes to College

My brother, Brock, left for college at CSU Fort Collins. We took him up there to move him in and say our goodbyes. This was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. We're very close so it was hard to say goodbye.
  • Section Leader

I hope to be the section leader of the flutes my senior year. Right now I'm an assistant section leader so it would be awesome to really be in charge.
  • Graduation from CCHS

I plan to graduate with highest honors and hopefully my associates degree as well.
  • Begin School at CSU Fort Collins

I want to attend CSU for neuro science to become a scientist who studies reactions in the brain.

  • Get Married

I want to marry the love of my life at a spring wedding with all of our friends and family.
  • Have Children

I want to have two kids, one boy and one girl.
  • Win a Prize

I'd love to win a prize of some kind for my work. Not so that I can brag or anything, but so that my work is recognized and taken seriously.
  • Grandkids

I want my children to marry happily and have cute kids, unless they don't want any of that.
  • Die Happily

I want to pass away peacefully in my sleep with no unfinished business or loose ends.
