    Prehistoric Art (Stone Age)

    Prehistoric Art (Stone Age)
    Stone Age Art has three different parts called the Paleolithic(Old stone age),Neolithic (New Stone age), and Mesolithic(Middle stone age). This Stone age art was created by carving rocks or even just painting on them to tell a story. Some characteristics of cave painting would be fertility goddesses, megalithic structures. An example would be Lascaux Cave Painting, Woman of Willendorf, Stonehenge. Some Historical events were Ice Age, New Stone Age, and first permanent settlements.

    The Dark Ages

    The Dark Ages
    Medieval art started during the dark ages. Medieval Art began because of the churches cathedral construction. This is when they started creating stone statues, wood carving, and metal work for the alters. During this time was the Byzantine which was Islamic architecture and maze like designs Historic events taking place during this time period are the birth of Islam and Muslim Conquests. Andrei Rublev was a famous artist during this time period.

    Greek Art

    Greek Art
    Greek Pottery was now used to make buildings such as temples. They were simple, just rectangles with columns. The three types of columns are Doric, Ionic and Corinthian. The idea that everyone liked to see was equally balanced and perfect proportions. A time in history would be Alexander the Great’s conquests.

    Roman Art
    Roman Art is influenced by realism art. Realism is when the artists try to recreate something in person on the painting exactly how you see it so that it looks real people describe it to be practical and down to earth. A major time period in history will be when Julius Caesar got assassinated. Trajan’s Column was commemorating the Tragians victory in the Dacian Wars.

    European Revival (middle ages)
    The middle ages were a time period in European history around the same time as the fall in the Roman Empire. Gothic art was big during this time period. Gothic art is European architecture.It is mostly religious art and really influenced the people. This was also broken up into three different time periods called Early Gothic,High Gothic, and International Gothic. Famous artists at this time was, Dame, Chartres, Cimabue, Giotto. The major historical events were the black death and crusades.

    The Renaissance
    The Florentine Renaissance was described with different characteristics called humanism and geometrical perspective. Also a big part of this time period was perspective. Perspective show different dimensions of a shape and how many different ways you can look at something. This was a rebirth of classical culture. Some historical events during this time period were when Martin Luther starts reformation and when the Turks conquered Constantinople.
  • Romanticism

    Romanticism
    Romanticism is an art period that emphasizes inspiration some people characterize these as The triumph of imagination and individuality. Some major works of art are Caspar Friedrich, Gericault, Delacroix, Turner, Benjamin West. Important time periods would be the American Revolution, French Revolution, and the Napoleon crowned emperor of France

    Modern Art
    Impressionism art is during this time period. This is a somewhat bury picture but easy to see if you get a quick glimpse of it. It usually has very bright colors to catch your eye. Surrealism is also in this time period, this was a creative way of thinking. Major Artists during this time period are Monet, Manet, Renoir, Pissarro, Cassatt, Morisot, Degas. Also a Historic event during this time period is Franco-Prussian War.
  • Cubism, Futurism, Supremativism, Constructivism

    Cubism, Futurism, Supremativism, Constructivism
    Cubism is a single viewpoint popular in painting during the early 20th century. Futurism is when the painting is reflecting the future. Supremativism is created by a simple geometric shape. Constructivism is when mechanical objects are combined to make something. Some characteristics are Pre and Post World War 1 art experiments new forms to express modern life. Picasso was a big artist during this time. During this time period the historical event the Russian Revolution was going on.
  • Dada and Surrealism

    Dada and Surrealism
    Dada and Surrealism is a crazy style of art some people describe it as "painting dreams". Dada is an art movement of the European avant-garde. Surrealism was a way to express imagination. These art periods influenced the people around them. Famous artists were Dalí, Ernst, Magritte, de Chirico. Lastly the Historical events during this time period was World War I and The Great Depression.
