First began in Paris, developed to Europe, it was look upon as nonsense, rejected, shunned due to the harsh disapproval from art community, due to popularity of realism movement. Artist includes Monet, Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Paul Cezanne.

    Movement began in Paris. Started by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Consists on oil painting, sculptures, mix media. Cubism broke from centuries of tradition in painting realism for example not referring to the single viewpoint, instead analysed objects, then braking up the element and merged fixed in an abstracted form, and how the artist portrays the objects from numerous viewpoints to create a layered effect.

    Movement emerged across Germany then throughout Europe. although wasn’t completely new as artistes such as Vincent Van Gogh, James Ensor had been doing the same style, but this was the first given a name. Expressionism refers to image of reality, instance portrait, landscape, then being changed express the artist’s feeling, emotion by using tone of colour, this can be highly intense, vibrant and not naturalistic, the brushwork is hard, strong, free, oil paint layered generously to give textured.

Dada style consist on its mockery of materialistic, famous money-oriented possessions and powerful influence of the war, this was to generate the humour, comedy manners. Main style surrealism creates was oil paints, other include installation, photography, famous artist painter includes Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, René Magritte and Joan Miró. style used by creating everyday objects, manipulating, deforming and merging to create unbelievable dreamlike elements.
