    Columbus

Chritopher Columbus wrote to the Indians that, "They are the best people in the world and above all the gentlest". But then Indians acused Columbus of enslavement, murder, and worse. Columbus and Indians did not get along very well. This was important beacause the Indians knew that columbus did not care about them, he was just lying to them. He also ended up killing most of the Indians. Even De Las Casas wrote to the king of Spain to stop this. No one did very much.

  • Indian Removal Act

    Indian Removal Act
There was a president that was urging a bill for the removal of tribes. That president is Andrew Jackson. He wanted to remove the Natives from states in the East where he found gold to land west of the Mississippi. The Cherokee fought in court, not in battles. The Supreme Court said no, the property were the rights of the Natives. It is important because the president and the country didn't listen to the laws of the Supreme Court.

  • Voting Law for Natives

    Voting Law for Natives
Even though the Congress said all Natives must be allowed to vote, some states didn't let them for some more years.
Many Natives can still vote on their tribal reservations, too, like a separate country or nation.
