    On September 9th, 2001, an extremist group named Al-Qaeda hijacked two planes and crashed them into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, New York. Due to the terrorist attack, airport security would become more intensified than before.

    The hurricane occurred in New Orleans, no one expected the damage to be as serious as it was. The highest wind speed was 174 mph.
  • Mortgage Crisis

    Mortgage Crisis
    *From 2007 to 2009, America entered a mortgage crisis, the recession started due to a large decline is house prices, this led to many foreclosures. The mortgage crisis was especially special to me because it relocated my family from Grayling, MI to Grand Rapids, MI. At the time I was 10 years old, nervous to move to a new place and start all over, if only I knew Grand Rapids would have so much more to offer than Grayling ever could. Grand Rapids granted me new opportunities and friends.

    On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama won the Presidential Campaign against Republican John McCain. President Obama is the fist Black President in American history, he would serve from 2008 to 2012. Later he would win reelection in the election of 2012, serving from 2012 to 2016

    Deepwater Horizontal Oil Spill
    On August 20, 2010, the largest marine oil spill would erupt. Due to a weak core, an oil spill occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident was caused by oil company, BP.

    After a very long search for Osama Bin Laden, SEAL team six worked together and assassinated Osama Bin Laden. This was a big accomplishment for President Obama, killing the leader of Al- Qaeda.
  • Trip to India

    After not visiting my parent's homeland for five years, I had the opportunity to visit family and friends I had not visited in a long time. In October of 2011, my mother and I visited India, it was an amazing experience to connect with my culture. Also, it opened my eyes to how privileged some of us are compared to others.

    On December 14, Adam Lanza walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School with a gun, intentionally wanting to kill students and faculty. While there are many gun shootings, one at a school would make people, especially parents, question the security of schools.

    In the sixth grade, students were offered an option to test out of seventh grade math and advance to eighth grade math, Unfortunately, my hard work was not enough to pass the test. For 2 years, I sacrificed my summers to study hard and test out of my current grade's math class. This dedication proved to me that if I set my mind to something and work extremely hard, I can overcome any hardship.

    One Direction Concert
    *Music is an interesting concept, it can control our emotions, impact our views, and learn new things from it. Personally, One Direction has impacted my life in ways I would have never expected. While many laugh at my dedication for this band, I can not thank them enough for what they have done for me. Through this band I've created many friendships, amazing memories, and even improved my negotiating skills. Seeing them front row is an experience I'm very grateful for and will always appreciate.

    SCOTUS approves same-sex marriage
    While equality for same-sex couples has not finished their fight, on June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court ruled for same-sex marriage nationwide. A humongous achievement for the LGBT community!
  • Ferguson Shooting

    On August 9, 2015, Michael Brown was shot by Officer Wilson due to not obeying his orders of moving from the street to the pavement. Many classified his death as a hate crime and the incident shed light on the Black Lives Matter Movement and proved that racial injustice is still alive today.

    Many were watching a simple, fun game of soccer until terror stroke. ISIS had planned a terrorist attack, armed with guns, they went around the stadium and nearby sites attacking innocent people.
