APUSH Timeline 1850

  • The First Slaves

    The first slaves arived into the Americas in 1619. Slaves help manual labor in the new world, as they did a lot of grunt work. However, looked back upon is not morale, which will lead to future disputes.
  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    PRIMARY SOURCE - Government document which ruled the Navigation Acts in the Americas.
    One rule demanded that all trade or exports to be carried on a British Ship. Though it wasn't enforce as much, lead to animosity towards Britain.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Rebellion lead by Nathaniel Bacon due to attacks from Native Americans. They believed east portion of town didn't help fighting off Indians and didn't care for their protection. They chased governor out of town, showed weakness of government and the constant difficulties of colonist.

    In England, a revolution occurred which they overthrew king James and William and Mary became the ruler of England. This became important because it dismantle the Dominion of New England created by King James.

    Seven Year's War

    At the end of the war, it marked Britian navel supremacy as well as the strength of the thirteen colonies. They were able to defeat their rival who was also settling in the world.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    This act caused colonist to be upset due the taxation without representation. The colonist were already in huge finical disorder and the extra tax angered the colonist. Adds animosity that contributed to American Revolutionary War.
  • Patrick Henry's "Give me Liberty, or Give me Death!"

    PRIMARY SOURCE - A document which recorded the speech of Patrick Henry.
    This speech became very important as it represented how the colonists if they continued to stay under Britian. This was the first major spoken idea of seperating from England.

    This war was between the new country of United States of America versus the Britain. It is important because the colonist separated from Britain and became its own country after winning the war.
  • Declaration of Independence

    PRIMARY SOURCE - Offical document with all signatures at the meeting stating the reasons for the colonist seperation of Britian.
    The Declaration of Independence indicated the reasons why the colonist were upset and angered, to in which why they seperated from Britian. This marked the offical seperation of Britian.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    This was the "turning point" of the American revoultion because after the battle France agreed to help the Americans.
  • Shay's Rebellion

    Shay's Rebellion
    Many farmers were losing their farm land due to foreclosures and tax delinquencies. Daniel Shays lead a rebellion which took awhile for the government to take down. This showed the weakness of Articles of Confederation.
  • First National Bank

    PRIMARY SOURCE - the charter for the first national bank in America.
    Alex Hamilton proposed a national bank to the constitution. This created the first bank for everyone in America and worked with having one common currency everywhere in America.
  • Whiskey Rebellion

    Whiskey Rebellion
    This started when government, precisely Alexander Hamilton, placed a tax on whiskey, which taxed the surplus of many farmers. Famers rebelled in anger, but was quickly brought down by an army led by George Washington. This showed constitution was here to stay.
  • Election of 1800 Jefferson vs. Adams

    PRIMARY SOURCE - a manuscprit of Thomas Jefferson first inauguration speech.
    This era became significant as it began the age of Jefferson and Jeffersonianism. Thomas Jefferson was technically the first democratic-republican.

    This halted hostilities between France and Britain that threaten American shipping and ships. This is important as it temporarily stop the raids on American ships.

    Thomas Jefferson came to do the decision to buy a huge portion of land west of the Mississippi river. This nearly double the size of the United States, and the new land will offer many advancements in the future.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    Marbury v. Madison
    Primary Source - A written document that states the supreme courts decision on the issue. This marked an important issue as this court case basically stated the power of the Supreme Court. Their power was to state whether things are constitutional or not. They are not supposed to decide in political matters.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis And Clark went on an expedition to explore the newly obtain land from the louisiana purchase. Many discoveries in plants, animals, and land/terrian. This influence people to settle in the new land in the future.
  • The Embargo Act of 1807

    This Act made it illegal for all exports to foreign ports illegal due to the fact that many American ships were being raided. This ends up hurting the economy more than help it.
  • McCulloch v. Maryland

    McCulloch v. Maryland
    PRIMARY SOURCE - the official transcript that Supreme Court that detailed the decision in court case.
    An issue of whether Maryland had the power to tax a federal corporation, however Marshall stated it was unconstitutional. Maryland could not tax Federal Corporation. This showed that federal is more powerful than the state level.
  • Missouri Compromise

    PRIMARY SOURCE - the document pertaing details of the Missouri Compromise.
    Admits Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. Also made it that all new states north of 36*30 paraellel from now on will be free states.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    PRIMARY SOURCE - the document that hold the detail of the Monroe Doctrine.
    This doctrine told that eastern portion of the hemisphere cannot interfere with any parts of the western portion of the hemisphere. Anything will be viewed as a threat. This marked the superiority of America and their tolerance of the eastern side of the world.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    A slave rebellion lead by Nat Tunrer in Virginia. This caused for nation wide, mostly in the south, of potential slave rebellions. This caused for stricter laws against slaves as well more discrimnation against slaves and blacks.
  • The Panic of 1837

    Due to Andrew Jackson taking money from national bank and placing into state banks in 1835-1836, the economy dropped. There was economic crisis as people's wages dropped and people became poorer. This marked economic crisis during this time, showed how issues came from Andrew Jackson.
