  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    Under the Jackson Administration, the Indian Removal act was passed which forced Indians out of their land. The land was poor for farming. It is called the Trail of Tears because 4,000 people died on the trial. The Trail of Tears seperated the US from the Indians, and proved the US as a superior.
  • Mexican Cession

    Mexican Cession
    The Mexiacn Cession was caused by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which gave America a lot of land after the Mexican American war. Because of this, America would go and settle the land that they were given, which would disturb the Indians that had lived in the land.
  • Sioux War

    Sioux War
    The Sioux War started in 1854, when Indians killed a few Americans. A series of battles occured between 1854 and 1890, cause by an act of retaliation from one side. The was Is significant because it was the end of war between America and the Indians. The battles included the Gratton Massacre, Fetterman Fight, Battle of Rosebud, Battle of Little Bighorn, and the Wounded Knee Massacre.
  • Homestead Act

    The Homestead act was passed during the civil war, and it granted people who had not commited a crime against the US 160 acres of free land to settle. This was extremely significant because the US was giving away Native American land, which created very violent and sometimes deadly battles.
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    The railroad connected California and the rest of the west to the union, and made transportaion between the land much easier. This altered the Indians way of life because the railraod went through their land. Although it was finished after the death of lincoln, His dream of making a railroad to connect that land was completed.
  • Sandy Creek Massacre

    John Chivington betrayed the Indian leader Black Kettle in their agreement to meet to discuss a treaty, and killed 400 indians, mostly of which were woman and children. Two years later the indians retaliated and killed 81 US soldiers and cizillians. There was not a single survivor.
  • Chrisholm Trail

    Chrisholm Trail
    Joesph McCoy came up with the idea of moving cattle through the the kansas railroad system instead of the harsh land. Jesse Chrisholm was the first person to use this idea, and the trail was used daily to transport cattle. The trail went through indian land which disturbed the Indians.
  • Little Big Horn

    Little Big Horn
    Little Big Horn was the most successful battle for the Sioux. Outraged, the Indians scalped all the soldiers and striped them. They thought that this would not allow them to go to heaven. The death of the US General, George Cluster, upset the US and so they pushed back the boundry lines of the Indian land, which ruined the Sioux.
  • End of Bufalo Herd

    End of Bufalo Herd
    The US and the Indians hunted the buffalo to the point where there was only 200 left in the country.
  • Dawes Act

    Dawes Act
    The Dawes Act, founded by Henry Dawes, made it possible for the US government to seperate land in reservations for individuals. The purpose was to protect indian land rights, but the land that was given to the indians made it impossible to farm.
  • Wounded Knee

    The Last battle of the American Indian war, After this battle the Sioix would begin to fear the US more and did not want to try and negotiate anymore, in fear of more death.
