    Apollo Mission 1 was scheduled to launch Feb. 21, 1967 but astronauts Virgil Grissom, Edward White and Roger Chaffee lost their lives when a fire swept through the command module. So they had to find a new crew before launching again.

    The objective of Apollo Mission 11 was to complete a national goal which was to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. This mission was also successful.

    The Apollo Mission 12 was the second crewed lunar landing that included an extensive series of lunar exploration tasks by the lunar module. This was also another successful mission.

    The objective of the Apollo Mission 8 was to demonstrate a translunar injection. This mission was also successful.

    The objective of Apollo Mission 13 was to land in the Fra Mauro area but an explosion on board forced them to circle the moon without landing. This mission was not successful.

    The Apollo Mission 14 was the second part of the Apollo Mission 13 that had failed. So it was a second try and this time it was usccessful.

    The Apollo Mission 15 was the first of the Apollo "J" missions capable of a longer stay time on the moon and greater surface mobility. This was another successful misssion.

    The main objective for this mission was to inspect, survey, and sample materials and surface features at a selected landing site on the moon.

    The Apollo Mission 17 landed on the Taurus-Littrow highlands and valley area because of its great variety of its ages of rocks. This was also another successful mission.
