  • APOLLO 1

    APOLLO 1
Apollo 1 was expected to be the first maned Apollo mission. During a test a fire swept through command module killing all three astronauts. An investigation into the fire caused future flights to be delayed until repairs could be done.
  • APOLLO 7

    APOLLO 7
The mission objective was to test the flight capabilities of the ship and crew. to make sure it was safe for future flights. Apollo 7 lifted off perfectly at 2:45 a.m on October 11th 1968 and reached orbit 11 minutes later. The ship circled the earth 163 times in the next 11 days. The ship landed in the Atlantic ocean on October 22nd 1968 at 11:48 a.m.
  • Apollo 8

    Apollo 8
The objectives for Apollo 8 were further test the abilities of the crew, command module and mission support team. Apollo 8 launched at 7:51 a.m and reached orbit. A few hours later the crew maneuvered the ship into orbit around the moon. Loss of signal happened at 68 hours when the ship went to the far side of the moon. The astronauts were the first people to see the far side of the moon. The ship landed into the pacific ocean on December 27th 1968.
  • Apollo 9

    Apollo 9
The main objective of the mission was a earth orbital engineering test of the first manned lunar module. Apollo 9 launched on march 3rd 1969. While in orbit the command module docked with the lunar module an navigated into orbit around the moon. On the third day the astronauts put on spacesuits and preformed a systems checkout. Over the next few days tests were preformed detaching and reattaching the two components of the space ship. On march 13th, Apollo splashed down into the Atlantic ocean.
  • Apollo 10

    Apollo 10
The mission objective was to simulate all aspects of the lunar landing beside for the the landing. On May 18th it went into 115 mile orbit. The first ever live color TV transmissions came from the space shuttle three hours later. Only one of four mid course corrections was needed because the launch went so well. 76 hours into the mission The shuttle went into lunar orbit 69 miles from the moon and the first ever Color TV images of the moon were sent. On May 26th 1969 the spaceship landed.
  • Apollo 11

    Apollo 11
The mission objective was to land on the moon and return to earth safely. On July 16, 1969, Neil Armstrong took off to land on the moon.On July 19, after Apollo 11 had flown behind the moon out of contact with Earth, came the first lunar orbit insertion maneuver. About 530 million people watched Armstrong's televised image and heard his voice describe the event as he took "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" on July 20, 1969. On July 24, Apollo 11 landed in the Pacific Ocean.
  • Apollo 12

    Apollo 12
The mission objectives were to do a bunch of moon exploration tasks. Apollo 12 was launched into a stormy sky. They lost connection twice when the ship was struck by lightning. The spaceship got into orbit. Soon they got into lunar orbit. On November 20th they landed on the moon and went on an exploration. During the exploration, they discussed their findings with Geologists in Houston. After 31.6 hours in the moon, the lunar module fired up and put them 54 miles above the moon.Came home 11/24.
  • Apollo 13

    Apollo 13
Apollo 13 was suppose to land in the Fra Mauro area. An explosion forced them to reschedule this until the next mission. Five minutes after lift off the center engine shut down. This was suppose to be the third lunar landing attempt, but was aborted after a rupture in the oxygen tank. Nine minutes later the second oxygen tank exploded. They lost all power and water. They initially did not know how to get back to earth safely. They landed on April 17th in the Pacific Ocean.
  • Apollo 14

    Apollo 14
The mission objective was to explore the Fra Mauro region. After lift off, difficulties were experienced when docking with the lunar module. Due to communication problems, the first period of extra vehicular activity began one hour later than scheduled. While on the moon, they collected 94 pounds of rocks, which would later be given to 187 different scientific teams in the US and 14 other countries for study. They returned and landed safely in the Pacific Ocean on February 9, 1971.
  • Apollo 15

    Apollo 15
Apollo 15 was the first of the Apollo J missions that were capable of longer stays on the moon. They were to explore the Hadley Apennine region to set up and activate lunar experiments. There was a minor problem early in the mission with a short circuit in the service propulsion engine. They had a perfect landing onto the moon. They set up several experiments and explored the Apennine mountain range for over eighteen hours. They landed safely near Hawaii.
  • Apollo 16

    Apollo 16
Apollo 16 planed to inspect and sample materials at a select landing site the, Descartes Region. Emplace and activate surface experiments and conduct in-flight experiments. There were two significant problems that occurred, one en-route to the moon and one in lunar orbit. They landed almost six hours late. They went on the moon in a rover and explored for over 20 hours. One of the astronauts tripped, breaking the electronics. They took photos and got samples. They safely returned on April 27th.
  • Apollo 17

    Apollo 17
The lunar landing site was the Taurus Littrow Highlands in the valley area. This was the final mission planned for the Apollo program. It was a smooth lift off with minimal corrections needed. A lunar module pilot entered the lunar surface. The tasks on the lunar surface were completed in 22 hours. They lifted off of the moon and flew back to earth and they safely landed on December 19, 1972, in the Pacific Ocean. Marking the end of the Apollo Space Missions.
