    Despite being a member of the Federalist Party, Washington was immensely popular as a war hero and was an obvious choice as the first president for both federalists and anti-federalists. He was unanimously elected by the 69 electors. His runner up, John Adams, was named Vice President. George Washington was able to rise above the politics of the day and carry every electoral vote - 132 from 15 states - to win a second term. John Adams, as runner-up, remained the Vice President.

    Kentucky is the 15th state. Kentucky was the first region west of the Allegheny Mountains to be settled by American pioneers. The region was part of Virginia until statehood was granted. The state has the greatest length of navigable waterways and streams in the contiguous United States; and the two largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River.

    Tennessee is the 16th state. Tennessee was nearly admitted to the Union in the days following the American Revolution as the State of Franklin, but the admission was turned down by the Continental Congress.Tennessee is the first state to be admitted to the Union that was territory that was under the direct control of the US Government.

    John Adams
    As Washington's Vice President, Adams was the next logical Federalist candidate. He was opposed by Thomas Jefferson in a fierce campaign. Adams was in favor of a strong national government and felt France was a greater concern to national security than Britain while Jefferson felt the opposite. At that time, whoever received the most votes became president and second most became Vice President. The two enemies were elected together; John Adams received 71 electoral votes and Jefferson got 68.

    Thomas Jefferson's Presidency of the United States, from March 4, 1801 to March 4, 1809, carried out what Jefferson called the "Revolution of 1800", as he attempted to put into action the principles of his Democratic-Republican Party. In domestic affairs Jefferson tried to weaken Federalist influences, especially in the judiciary, and succeeded in limiting the size of government by reducing taxes and the national debt.

    The flag is a burgee. Ohio is the first state admitted to the union thats a part of the Northwest Territory.
  • James Madison

    James Madison
    Running on the Democratic-Republican ticket, Madison won the 1808 presidential election by a wide margin. He defeated Federalist Charles C. Pinckney and Independent Republican George Clinton, securing nearly 70 percent of the electoral votes. It was a remarkable victory, considering the poor public opinion of the Embargo Act of 1807.

    The 18th state! My state, Louisiana. Louisiana is the only state divided by parishes ,not counties. Louisiana is named for French King Louis XIV (the Sun King). It is the only state in the union that is divided into Parishes, not counties. It was part of the Louisiana Purchase, which when completed in 1803, doubled the size of the United States. it also gave control of the Mississippi River to the United States.

    The 19th State , Indiana. Indiana is rich with sports history, specifically high school basketball. While James Naismith "invented" basketball in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891, when he visited Indiana in 1925 and witnessed screaming crowds watching a game, he later wrote, "Basketball really had its origin in Indiana, which remains the center of the sport."
  • James Monroe

    James Monroe
    Monroe was the choice of both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. His Vice President was Daniel D. Tompkins. The federalists ran Rufus King. There was very little support for the federalists, and Monroe won 183 out of 217 electoral votes. This marked the death knell for the Federalist Party.Monroe was the obvious choice for reelection and had no opponent. Therefore, there was no real campaign. This time was called the "Era of Good Feelings."

    State Number 20! Mississippi was organized as a territory following the American Revolution, carved out of land ceded by Georgia and South Carolina. At the outbreak of the Civil Way, Mississippi became the second state to secede from the Union and was a founding member of the Confederacy. The state suffered the largest percentage of people who died in the Civil War of any Confederate State. 78,000 Mississippians entered the Confederate army. M - ISS - ISS - IPP - I

    Number 21. Illinois is the state that is smack in the middle of the rest of the states when it comes to size. It is the twenty-fifth most extensive state while being the fifth most populous state in the Union.
  • Alabama

    The twenty-second state admitted to the Union is also the first state alphabetically - Alabama. During the Civil War the Confederacy was established in Montgomery and served as the initial capital of the Confederacy. The state was later a flashpoint in the Civil Rights movement, including the Montgomery bus boycott and the Freedom March from Selma.

    Number Twenty-Three.Maine started out as part of Massachusetts before becoming part of the United States in the Missouri Compromise of 1820. Maine holds the distinction of being the easternmost of all of the US states and Eastport and Lubec are the easternmost city and town in the United States, respectively. It is the least densely populated state east of the Mississippi River. During the Civil War, the 20th Maine, under Joshua Chamberlain rose to distinction during the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • Missouri-Slave State

    State number 24! Missouri gets its name from an Native American word meaning the "town of large canoes." Missouri's unofficial nickname as the "Gateway to the West" owes itself to the fact that the Pony Express got its start in the state; St. Louis was the embarkation point for both the Oregon and Santa Fe Trails. It was also the starting and ending point for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
