    This was when nearly 135 African Americans were arrested and accused of plotting a slave rebellion. The leader of the rebellion was Denmark Vessey, a free black man. In result of this trial 35 slaves were executed and 43 were sold in distant locations.

    Election Jackson vs. Adams

    This election was the first election to be decided off of the popular vote. The difference between the two was that Adams supported the National Bank and Jackson opposed it. Andrew Jackson won.

    The Indians were always under pressure from the white settlers and the only people able to protect the Indians was the federal government. President Jackson removed the federal protection and passed the Indian Removal Act.

    At the Capitol building, Richard Lawrence shot two derringers at President Jackson, Both missing. Lawrence was then found insane and put into a metal institution for the rest of his life.

    This war began on the border of Maine and Canada. The border was never divided and was used by both sides. President Van Buren sent General Winfield Scott to negotiate a deal. There was a truce.

    Nearly 1000 settlers began an overload trip to the pacific. the first group went through hell. Dispite being forced the abandon most of their possessions, the group made it safe.

    Mexico refused to meet with a US envoy for a negotiation. President Polk ordered the American forces to get close to the Mexican border to take territory. The Mexicans attacked and the war begun.
  • Gold Discovered in California

    Gold Discovered in California

    President Polk announced that there has been gold found in California. This started the Gold Rush where 80,000 individuals headed to California. The first wave was in 1849 which became the "49ers" football team.
  • Blood Spilled

    Blood Spilled

    The first blood of the Civil War was spilled when a slave owner tried to recapture his former slaves who were in the town of Christiana, Pennsylvania. When the slave owner arrived he was met by armed men who shot and killed him.
