This is the first event where Andrew made big moves. In the election of 1824, Henry Clay withdrew from the race and convinced others in the house to vote for John Adams. Adams won, and made Henry Clay became the Secretary of State. Andrew Jacksons and his followers though that this was unfair and called this very incident the "Corrupt Bargain".

During his presidency, Andrew Jackson wanted to destroy the National Bank because he felt it favored the wealth class, so he ordered all the money in the National Bank to be placed in state banks that were more likely to lend money to farmers. He refused to renew the National Bank when its charter, which means that the bank went out of business.

In this election, Andrew Jackson decided to run for president as a democrat. He used rallies, parades, and nominating conventions to his advantage to try and defeat John Adams in the election. He ended up winning because he was seen as a "Common Man". After the inauguration, he held a party at the White House, which ended up being trashed.

While Jackson was president, he had obviously had to rearrange things in the government his way. So, he fired old government officials because he thought that they were corrupt, and replaced them with people that supported him. He called them the Spoils System, where the victor gets the spoil.

Because of the Indian Removal Act, they were forced to move into Indian Territory (now in Oklahoma) during the fall and winter. As a result of this, the path and trail of the journey that the Cherokees had to experience, made them lose one-fourth of their total population. The migration ended up being called the Trail of Tears.

Jackson and the common man wanted the land Native Americans lived on for farming purposes and the prospect for gold. So, to achieve this, they passed an act which forced Indians to move out of the US. In the court case Worcester V. Georgia, John Marshall ruled that Georgia had no right to remove the Cherokee, but Jackson let Georgia remove the Indians anyway. Some historians believed that Jackson should've been impeached after this because he overstepped his bounds and took too much power.

In 1828, there was a high tariff passed that angered the south because they could no longer easily trade crops with other countries. One of the countries, South Carolina, passed a nullification act which officially ignored the tariff, and threatened to secede from the U.S. if they tried to enforce the tariff. But the U.S. was ready to fight, and got help from congress which passed the force act. They then gave i after the threat, and Henry Clay produced a compromise to reduce the tariff.
