The first U.S. satellite to orbit takes off at Cape Canaveral using a modified Jupiter C-Rocket. It carries with it a scientific experiment created by James Van Allen and discovers the Earths radiation belt.

Apollo 13

Apollo 13 is launched, but its SM oxygen tanks suffer an explosion. Its moon landing is aborted, and the crew returns home safely.

Apollo 14

Jan 31, 1971

Apollo 14 is launched and lands on the planned moon landing site for Apollo 13, the Fra Mauro Highlands, which they explore using the help of a 2 wheeled cart that permits the transport of a significantly greater amount of lunar materials than previous missions. Alan Shepard becomes the first man to hit a golf ball in space.

Expidition One

The crew of the Expidition One is launched on a Soyuz transport to become the first crew of the I.S.S.

Endeavour

The U.S. launches the space shuttle, the Endeavour, which is carrying the Rafaello logistics module back to the I.S.S. with new supplies.
