    Death of Boozzeman Trail
    The Bozeman Trail was the shortest option to reach to Montana from the east. In 1864 and 1865 the federal government built three forts along the trail. Ft. Reno, Ft. Phil Kearney and Ft. C. F. Smith were built to guard and protect travelers along the trail. The trail ran right through Cheyenne ground, the chief Red Cloud had unsuccessfully appealed to the government to end white settlement on the Bozeman Trail.     In the spring of 1868 a conference was held at Fort Laramie, in present day Wyoming, which resulted in a treaty with the Sioux. It was the result of the conflict in the Bozeman trail. It had requirements for the native americans. It said that they must agree on living on a reservation along the Missouri River, This treaty was to bring peace between the whites and the Sioux. None of the chiefs agreed with this. The leader Sitting Bull did not even sign this.

    In 1837 congress passed this act amining to “americanize” the Native Americans. The act broke up the reservations and gave some of the reservation land to individual native americans. Around 160 to 80 acres of land then the rest was given to the people who would like to buy land. The resulting income would be used by the Native Americans to buy farm implements. By 1932, whites had taken about two thirds of the land that had been set for the Native Americans had been taken, so at the end of this
