    The Journey Begins
    With drought and diesease ravaging through the land, I Anton Delpovich from the Ukraine, have decide to move to America. • Traveling to America

    Traveling to America
    1) September 1891; Seven Days after boarding:
    The crowded steerage of the ship was unbearable. The smell was rotten and many of the people were sick. Many others were going mad, where I had to stay calm. The only way to survive the four week to journey to a new land, a new life, was to mainly stay up top. It was crowded, but air was cleaner up there.
  • An American Citizen

    An American Citizen
    2) October 1891; Two hours after departing:
    I have just passed Ellis Island, and am now an American citizen. The only things I know how to do are constructing buildings and farming. Since New York doesn’t seem like it has farms, I plan to help work on the many unfinished buildings in New York. The air is not as clean as my mother land, but it is great to be in America.
  • Starting my Dream

    Starting my Dream
    3) April 1892; Seven Months after becoming an American Citizen:
    I have been working on buildings for some time now, and learned to speak some English. These Americans aren’t so nice to me, and pay isn’t the best. I have only have seven dollars, and I am now hoping that I will be able to move to Montana, where there still is some mountainous land, just like in my homeland.
  • Moving West

    I now have the money that I need to travel to Montana, a beautiful region full of mountains, and fresh land that is cheap. I want to start making my dream possible, having a farm in America. I need a group to go with me, since the west is deadly. A week later, I start to head out with a group of other Ukrainians that have the same plan as me.
  • Homestead Act

    Homestead Act
    After spending most of my money on the journey to Montana, I don’t have much money to get me started. The official gave me a certificate that showed I had land ownership, and I didn’t have to pay anything. Turns out the Homestead Act allowed to live in west where they were giving out land, and I was able to get some for free.
  • Arriving in Montana

    Arriving in Montana
    1) October 1892;
    I have arrived in Montana, and am now friends with most of the other travelers. After six months of traveling, we plan to start our dreams in the Rocky Mountains. But spending most of my money on supplies, I have little cash to spare, I have barely any food left, an axe, and a bag of wheat seeds.
  • My Own Land

    My Own Land
    2) November 1892;
    Now that I have an acre of land, I have started to feel good in life. The trees and mountainous terrain will be hard to farm in, but it reminds me of home. The air is fresh, unlike the smoggy air of New York. As I chop down trees, making myself a home, I will visit my neighbors; the ones who traveled aside me.
  • Thriving on the Land

    Thriving on the Land
    3) February 1893;
    I have been living on the land for three months now, and am thriving in the Rocky Mountains. My house is complete, and I have managed to plant wheat on a suitable piece of land. The winter has been harsh, but I have been able to survive. I managed to obtain a rifle, to protect me from the wild animals, as well as hunting.
  • Conclusion

    Conclusion
    Ever since I have moved to America, I have gone through many changes. I have learned how to suvive in a big city, although I perfer the quiet outdoors. The Homestead allowed me to live in Montana, and I have been selling wheat for income.
