The Voyage of the Mayflower.
A group of 102 pilgrims sailed from England to America,``The New World´´, on the ship the Mayflower. The pilgrims left England because they wanted religious and political freedom. This journey continued for 65 days. -
The end of the Voyage.
After a long and dificult journey across the Atlantic Ocean the ship finally reached land. They saw a good place and decided to build a village there. Each family built a small house and they had land to grow vegetables and keep their animals. They called this village. ``Plymouth´´. -
The Native American.
The pilgrims met a Native American for the first time and he introduced them to his tribe. The Native Americans taught the pilgrims how to grow vegetables, After this, life became better for the pilgrims, so, other people wanted to try life in the New World and many inmigrants moved there. -
The populated New World.
The British had 13 colonies on the east coast of North America . But France and Spain also owned big areas of land and wanted to influence the New world, too. -
The British and French war.
The British army and the colonists fought the French. The British won the war and they got some of the French land. But then, the British goverment asked the colonists to pay taxes for the war. The colonists refused to pay them because they didn´t have a representative in the British goverment, so the 13 colonies decided to join together and fight the British. -
Great Britain Independence.
The colonies declared independence from Great Britain. Then, the fightning started. They led by George Washington, fought many long, difficult battles. -
The Treaty of Paris.
As a consecuence of the battles that George Washington led, the colonists defeated the British and the signed the Treaty of Paris. They called their new nation "The united States of America"(USA). -
Purchase Agreement.
Napoleon offered to sell the land they still owned to the United States for $15 million. The president, Thomas Jefferson, accepted the offer and signed the Louisiana Purchase Agreement. -
Trail of Tears
The US Goverment created the first Indian territory so, they forced a lot of Cherokee people to leave their homes and walk a long journey to their new territory, called the Trail of Tears. -
Expansion
One of the consecuences of the Purchase Agreement is that it doubled the size of the country and extended from th Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. -
Before the Civil War.
The people in the south lived on plantations, they had slaves and they wanted to keep them. They also wanted to have their own nation called the Confederacy.
On the other hand, people in the north and the president (Abraham Lincoln) wanted to end slavery and keep the country together. -
The American Civil War.
The south had got their own Confederacy. Confederate soldiers attacked a Union fort, so they were at a war!
Thousands of people were dead, both people in the south and in the north were suffering. At the moment, Confederates were losing, they had got fewer soldiers. -
End of the Civil War.
The Confederate army leader (General Robert E.) surrendered to the Union army leader (General Ulysses Grant). It was the end of the war. The slaves were free and the country became one nation, but they were never going to be the same.
