    The first military engagement of the revolutionary war. troops were sent to confiscate the colonial weapons. This war was won by the Americans, it proved to the British that American armies were not just a group of rebels; was fought in Massachusetts.
    Importance? The army defeated 700 British soldiers.
  • Battle of Satoga

    Battle of Satoga
    A war that had been fought 18 days apart (Sept. 19- Oct. 17), they were turning points in the Revolution. It renew the morale of the American Republic. America won a costly victory led by Horatio Gates and Benedick Arnolds. Sartoga was fought in New York.
    Importance? A victory for the Patriots which was crucial, considered the turning point.

    The British and Hessians (the term given to the German troops) were in the battle with the American and France. Battle also called the Seige Of Yorktown. It was led by George Washington (Americans) and Lord Charles Cornwalls (British). October 19, 1781 was when the battle ended.
    Importance? It was the first step for King George to acknowledge the independence of the 13 states

    Northwest Ordinance
    A law passed to regulate the settlement pf the territories in the Northwest. Constitution of states when was the Middle West. They were Ohio,Indiana,Illinois, Michigan ad Wisconsin. This ordinance was adopted by the Second Constinental Congress. The ordinance was given to us by Congress.
    Importance? It established government for the territories in the Northwest and it also protected the civil liberties and outlawed slavery in the new territories.

    A series of 4 laws that was passed by the US Constitution. It was also marked by the Federalist to suppress opposition at home. This Act gave the President the power to arrest and deport any alien suspected. Why is this act important?

    Virginia and Kentucky Resolution
    Written by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison,was the first passed by the Legislative of the 2 states. A federal law was attempting to nullify.An argument was developed by the resolution, that the government had right to put delegated power in the Constitution.Hoping that the other states would register their opposition was Madison to Alien and Sedition Act beyond the powers given to Congress.
    Importance? It asserted that states had the power to nullify unconstitutional federal laws.

    This is was purchased from the French through the treaty by the Thomas Jefferson. Money was needed for the Napolean to finance the French Revolution. A precedent was set through the purchase for future land and acquisition. It was approximately 827,000 square miles of the land which is the West of the Mississippi River.
    Importance? Control was given to the US for the Mississippi River and the city port of New Orleans

    A court case between William Marbury and James Madison which established the principle of judicial reviews. Americans having the power to strike down laws. 1100 states have been shot down. Madison was sued by Marbury because he would be the representative of Jeffersons administration.
    Importance? It created judicial review.

    Keeping the slaves states and free states in the Union was the purpose of this Compromise. Missouri became a slave state. A significant role was play between the North and South about the American Civil War. This compromise failed because of the slavery issues.
    Importance? To defuse the sectional rivalries and also political rivalries.

    The name " Monroe" came from president James Monroe who passed the doctrine to the Europeans countries to warn them not to recolonize Latin Americans.The doctrine had no effect when it was implemented. Theodore, Woodrow and William were presidents who used the Monroe Doctrine they used it for the involvement in Latin American affair which would lead to resentment.
    Importance? It created a sphere of Europeans and American influences.

    During the presidency of Andrew Jackson the US sectional political crisis which involved a confrontation tariff was passed by the federal government.The south upset about it. Attempting to nullify was John C Calhoun stating SC would not pay. States also had right to declare a federal law or tax to void if harmed.
    Importance? A compromise as reached, and the tariff was lowered and SC was forced to pay

    The 1845 annexation of the Republic of Texas into the US. Independence was declared from the Mexicans in 1836. Texas eventually became the 28th state in 1845. The US wanted Texas to settle the war between them and Mexico.Texas was acquire by the Us when Polk had accomplished the Negotiation of the Oregon Treaty with Great Britain.
    Importance?When the US won the war, it gain control over the Southwest through the Treaty of Guadeloupe.

    An argument was set between the US and Canada at the 49th parallel. The treaty between the US and the UK was signed on July 15, 1846. Negotiation of the British- American border was by the conflict between them. It led the Oregon Treaty to get control of the South and avoiding war.
    Importance? The British gained the land including the Vancouver land and the United States in the South Territory.

    Territories that made up most of the Southwestern territories of the US where the Mexican War. The Mexican Cession completed the Manifest Destiny.This battle lasted 2 years.US invasions of the Mexico and Bear Flog Revolt was apart of the cession. The Treaty of Guadeloupe stated the Mexico ceded the Mexican Cession.
    Importance? The signing established the Mexican- United States border at Texas at the Rio Grande River

    Allowing people in Kansas and Nebraska decide whether they want to allow slavery or not within their borders, created the territories of Kansas and Nebraska opening new lands for settlement. This act enrage many of the people in the North. It led to violence, was started by Stephan Douglas.
    Importance? Allows the territory to decide the issue about slavery.

    A series of violence in the US from 1854-59 which a during the settling of Kansas. North and South was pushed apart causing the Civil War. Led the establishment of the Republican Party. The war was fought between pro slavery and anti slavery.
    Importance? It is battlefield in which the forces of anti slavery and slavery met.

    A 2 day battle years ago in Charleston,Harbor South Carolina, said to be the First battle of the Civil War. During that battle normally people could die but no one did, only horses of the confederate. Confederacy attacked the Union ( 500/80). The battle was won by the confederate, their commander General PGJ Beauregard.
    Importance? It marked the beginning of the Civil War

" The bloodiest single day In American History" was said about thus Battle. 23,000 soldiers was laid dead or wounded .In the west of the creek, hills and long streets units formed the confederate right and center flanks. Troops from both east and west faced across David Miller 30 acres corn feild.
    Importance? It ended the union to repel the first confederate invasion f the north.

    Importance? The Mississppi got controlled by the Union.

This battle was the costliest land Battle of the American Civil War.This was the largest military conflict in North American history; Union and Confederate forces collide at Gettysburg.
    Importance? The won by the Union stopped the confederacy second invasion to the North.

    Proclamation 95, the executive order by Abraham Lincoln freeing the slaves in the US. Th purpose of this was to encourage the people to rejoin the Union. Abraham issue this twice, at first the southerns did not ease their rebellion 1862, but in 1863 it went into effect.
    Importance? It changed the focus of the war.
